Tough on the outside and meaty on the inside, onions are a great garden staple.
Planting Guide: Onions need to be started indoors, 8-10 weeks prior to the last seasonal frost. Sow 1/4" deep in fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun. Transplant just before or after the last frost of the season once the soil has been worked in rows 12-18" apart. Space 6" apart. Full sun. Water regularly - about 1" per week. Be careful not to over-water to prevent rot. Compost recommended.
Harvest: 100+ days - allow for the tops to dry out on the surface of the soil prior to extracting. At extraction, allow onions to sit in the sun for about a week to allow the outer layers to crisp. Store in mesh bags for optimum yield once harvested.
