Genovese Basil: is a vigorous grower and the leaves are medium large, with light green. Plant is very aromatic.

Large Leaf Italian Basil: this variety comes from Naples and is highly prized for its strong flavour. Giant rumpled 6 in. leaves are great for pesto, though the thick leaves are harder to dry than most. Vigorous 3 ft. plants are pest-resistant and slow to flower.

Red Leaf Basil: is a compact basil plant with handsome reddish-purple foliage and a delightful aroma. The small pink flowers are an added bonus in mid- to late summer.

Thai Basil: is sturdy and compact, growing up to 45 cm (1.48 ft), and has shiny green, slightly serrated, narrow leaves with a sweet, anise-like scent and hints of licorice, along with a slight spiciness lacking in sweet basil. Thai basil has a purple stem, and like other plants in the mint family, the stem is square.
