Mmmm... Basil... This scented herb, much like it's sweeter counterpart, has many of the same uses, just a slightly stronger taste of cloves and anise. Ideal for sauces and salads, basil can be planted indoors or outdoors - just as long as it gets allot of sunlight.
Planting Guide: Sow 1/4" deep, spaced about 12" apart, in moist, mulched soil to help retain moisture. Water regularly - 1-2 times per week. Plant in full sun after the danger of frost has passed - late May.
Harvest: Seedlings will emerge in about 2 weeks. Once seedlings are about 5" tall, begin pinching a few leaves to create regrowth and prevent blooming (once bloomed, the plant must be discarded). Basil leaves can be flash frozen, frozen in cubes or dried for future use.
Friendly Neighbours include tomatoes, peppers, marigolds, asparagus and a variety of root vegetables.
