Reference: V-SMOOTHGREENLEAFSWISSCHARD
Smooth Green Leaf Swiss Chard is actually a beet by definition, but its claim to fame is more for its beautiful and edible leaves.
Planting Guide: Seeds can be sown in early spring, once the soil can be adequately worked (about 1' deep) as chard is a bit more cold hardy than most plants. Sow 1/2" deep in well-drained soil, 10"-12" apart in rows about 18" apart. Full to partial sun. Water regularly. A slow release fertilizer recommended to ensure adequate absorption.
Harvest: Leaves can be harvested once they are over 6" in length and is recommended to ensure continued production. Trim outer leaves first. Cut the plant at the base to end the production cycle at the end of the season.
Friendly Neighbours: broccoli, radishes and cabbage.
