A member of the mint family, thai basil is sweet in taste but also charming to the eye - making it a garden favourite.
Planting Guide: Sow 1/4" deep, spaced about 12" apart, in moist, mulched soil to help retain moisture. Water regularly - 1-2 times per week at the base - avoiding the leaves. Plant in full sun after the danger of frost has passed - late May.
Harvest: Seedlings will emerge in about 2 weeks. Once seedlings are about 5" tall, begin pinching a few leaves at the top only to create regrowth and postpone blooming. Pick leaves in the morning and water before to improve taste. When harvesting the plant, cut about 6" above the soil.
Friendly Neighbours: Rosemary... If you can keep these two growing together, you are in good shape.
Tip: Use a nutrient rich fertilizer at least twice during the growing season to promote growth.
