Reference: VB-SHELLINGBUSHBEAN
Shelling beans are generally in a more immature growth stage and often are juicier and tastier as a result. They are located in shells or pods, hence their name.
Planting Guide: Not ideal for transplant, these are to be planted after the last seasonal frost, once the soil is warm in the mid to tail end of Spring. Sow 1.5" deep, 6" apart in rows 24" apart - ensure soil is well drained. Full sun. Water immediately and regularly at the base of the plant versus the leaves when possible. Poles may assist with support but are not necessary.
Harvest: 70-100 days - pick beans regularly to increase yield. Harvest once the pods begin to fill out with the seeds contained within.
Tip: Pale leaves suggest that the soil is lacking in nitrogen and likely requires fertilizer to increase the nitrogen content. Ideal for succession planting.
