Also known as English or garden peas, these are a popular garden staple and a fan of culinary enthusiasts. As the name suggests, peas must be extracted from the shells before they can be enjoyed.
Planting Guide: Sow 1-2" deep, about 12" apart in rows 24-36" apart, in moist, well drained soil in early spring. Peas do best in cooler temperatures and best planted early in season. Soak seeds prior to planting for about 24 hrs to encourage germination. Full to partial sun. Water regularly. Mulch recommended to retain moisture. Trellis or support required.
Harvest: About 60-70 days, once pods have reached maturity. Pick and de-shell before consuming.
Friendly Neighbour: Carrots, cucumber, corn, radish, parsley, potatoes, turnips and strawberries..
