Sometimes considered a 'trickier' plant to sow and grow, Celery just needs a bit more love in the garden than others. It is loaded with fibre and a great snack or addition to soups, stocks or salads.
When: Late Spring - after the final frost- late May, early June, but best started indoors about 6-8 weeks pre final frost.
Planting Guide: Sow just beneath the surface - about 1/4" deep, about 8" apart and rows 2' apart. If transplanting, trench 3-4" deep, about 6" apart. Water regularly - it thrives in moist soil. Part shade - it does not like direct sun. Ensure the soil is rich.
Harvest: 130-150 days which is why it is best started indoors. Harvest the whole plant once it is 3" in diameter or more. Celery will grow back for up to 2 years.
Companion plants: bush beans, leeks, cauliflower, onion, spinach, cabbage and tomatoes.
