A lettuce spring mix keeps life interesting! A cooler temperature crop, lettuce can be planted in early spring or late summer/early fall.
Planting Guide: Sow 1/4" deep, in loose, well-drained soil. Full/partial sun. Ideal soil temperatures above 10 degrees celsius. Space 6-12" apart in rows 12-18" apart. Fertilize about 3 weeks after planting with a healthy supply of compost and high nitrogen fertilizer. Mulch recommended. Succession planting is ideal for lettuce.
Harvest: Lettuce will emerge in 7-10 days and can be harvested by trimming the outer leaves - young leaves are the tastiest!
Tip: Chives & garlic are great to plant between plants to keep aphids at bay. Also planting taller plants such as tomatoes, corn, or sunflowers, next to lettuce is ideal to provide shade and hence, prevent bolting amidst the summer heat.
