This fun little lettuce is succulent in taste and a nice addition to any salad or lettuce mix.
Where: This plant likes the sun, but does not like to get sunburnt later into the season so take care on positioning. Choosing a location that lends to partial shade, especially from the afternoon sun is the safest bet to ensure optimal yield.
When: Can be planted indoors, 4-6 weeks prior to seasonal defrost, otherwise, best planted once soil has defrosted and can be worked. Optimal Soil temperature is between 12-18 degrees celcius to yield best results.
Planting Directions: Cut down into the soil about 1" deep. Spread the seeds across the cultivated surface. Add back the 1" of soil. Water daily - there is a reason baby leaf lettuce is so succulent!
Harvest: Once leaves are about 3"- 4" (hence why it is called 'baby lettuce') in length start trimming outer layers of leaves, leaving the crown behind (about 1" from center) so that the lettuce can regenerate and regrow.
Friendly Neighbours: Lettuce likes to keep it 'all in the family', so best planted with other lettuces and add in the odd radish cousin to add in some flavour.
