Vates Collards: produces dark green leaves that are very delicious. Vates grows to a height of 30″ and is very slow to bolt. All collards are green, and look similar to cabbage plants without the snowy head in the middle.

 

Dark green and oh, so delicious, these are great to kick off the garden season or close it in late fall.

 

Planting Guide: Sow 1/4" deep, 12" apart in rows 24"-36" apart in early spring once the soil can be worked or late summer for fall harvest. Seasonal temperatures should be above 12 degrees celsius when planting. Full sun. Water regularly.

 

Harvest: About 75 days although leaves can be trimmed after about 60 days.

 

Unfriendly Neighbours: There is some family rivalry amidst collards and its brothers broccoli and kale and sisters, cabbage and cauliflower - keep them far away in the garden...
