A fan of cooler temps versus the heat of the summer, this perennial plant grows leaves ideal for salads, blanching or cooking.
When: Plant 2-3 weeks before the final frost of the year, typically, early May.
Planting Guide: Plant seeds 1/4 - 1/2" deep in well drained soil about 8 -12" apart, in rows about 2' apart. Full sun is best.
Harvest: Chicory grows relatively quickly, sprouting in about 2-4 weeks. Leaves are ready for harvesting once they are over 1' long. To harvest, pull from the soil gently and cut at the root.
Water: 1-2" weekly to ensure sustained growth.
Friendly Garden Neighbours: Carrots, Onion and Fennel.
